MB FABER ACQUIRES NUCLEAR ENGINEERING COMPANYNovember 3, 2008 MB Faber Ltd, one of the main subsidiaries of MB Aerospace Holdings Ltd, has strengthened its position in the nuclear sector with the acquisition of nuclear engineering design company Remac Ltd. With a £2M turnover and a 30 strong team, Remac was founded in 1982 by directors Jim McCormac and Derek Read, and specialises in mechanical and electrical design. The company has offices in Egremont, Cumbria and in Liverpool. Like Faber, Remac’s track record of successful delivery was recognised by the company winning a two-year Task Design House (TDH) contract from Sellafield earlier this year. Remac is also a member of the Accord Multi-Discipline Design House and of a Decommissioning Framework Alliance at Sellafield. Established in 1988, MB Faber employs over 100 design engineers and is focused on delivering solutions for nuclear and aerospace customers. Specialist services in the nuclear industry include the design of nuclear mechanical handling plant and equipment, and the design and installation of plant control systems. This acquisition enhances the Leyland and Frizington-based Faber’s nuclear capability and with an additional close-to-site team of engineers, it will strengthen its ability to respond quickly to Sellafield requirements. Faber will also benefit from the integration of Remac’s Liverpool engineering staff who collectively have many decades of experience of working on Sellafield projects.
"In February this year we appointed Derek May, former British Nuclear Fuels Plc (BNFL) executive director, to the position of managing director and MB Faber has gone from strength-to-strength. Now, with the addition of Remac, the company is even stronger and with a well-balanced portfolio, we’re well placed to continue to increase our presence within the nuclear sector." Derek May, managing director of MB Faber, said: "The UK nuclear industry is starting to thrive again with the focus brought to nuclear clean-up by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and with the proposed new nuclear build programme. Not only does this acquisition enhance our nuclear capability, but it also demonstrates MB Faber’s commitment to growth. "Faber has a long track record within the nuclear industry, particularly on high hazard plants at Sellafield. Our position will now be further strengthened by the addition of the Remac team. I welcome Derek Read, Jim McCormac, general manager Graham Hampson and the rest of the Remac team and look forward to working with them. Their skills and experience complement those of the existing Faber workforce and I believe our customers will benefit from the enhanced resource we can now deploy to meet their needs." Jim McCormac added: "We are really proud of what we have achieved as a business and becoming part of Faber will allow our staff to unleash their full potential. I look forward to working with the Faber team to provide a broader range of services to our customers at Sellafield and elsewhere." Derek Read said: "I believe strongly that Faber and Remac complement each other very well and I expect to see the enlarged company thrive." Ends - more - MB Aerospace Holdings Ltd.
